It’s gift guide time! And we swear, we’ll keep this post kinda short, because we know you have a kajillion-bagillion-trillion other things to do, cookies to bake, things to shop, and keep your kids (READ : me) away from the cookie jar.

Let’s just start off right now with the fact that raisin cookies that look like chocolate chip cookies are the main reason we have trust issues. But we also just ate 15790 cookies and we were really into those, so take our words with a grain of salt.

We are counting down to the holidays a little early this year. We are just organized like that. Psssst. No we are not. What if a liars pants really caught on fire? Oh.no.

Where were we? Oh yeah.

We found 8 things to make the holidays feel more like …well.. like the holidays xo

It has been a tough year for our world, hasn’t it? It feels uncomfortable to head full tilt into the holiday season without acknowledging a different tone to the year. We also know that this world is a resilient place and are choosing to focus on the good and making this years holiday season special from HOME. In our jammies.

This year is about spending time together and appreciating even the smallest of details. We’ll be having quiet cozy nights in, baking together, playing board games curled up in blankets, lighting alllllll the candles and filling the room with sparkling vibes and holiday music.

It is going to be kind of ahhhhmazing to not rush into a mall and buy a whole bunch of ‘stuff’. We are being intentional and thoughtful about our gifts. Gifting our time, and choosing to be present is really the most precious thing. Presence over presents.

HERE’S WHAT REALLLLLY HAPPENS IN OUR HOLIDAY PLANNING.

We are just gals, standing in front of a Christmas tree, asking it to be draped with cookies and a side of baileys spiked coffee.

It all started with a plan. Tristan and I kinda sorta plan our holiday faves like we normally do… by the seat of our pants.  Now, we know there’s no right answer for everyone, but this is how we do it.  We send about 5733797 photos and text messages to each other for inspiration.

S Q U I R R E L.

Erhhhmergerd, there are so many good things.

Problem is, I am an excellent procrastinator and Tristan is the best cheerleader kinda gal.

We order our Etsy faves, and photograph them. Most of our photos are blurry because one of us is either reaching for a cookie or eating one.

Except this time. Because we are total weirdos, we thought it would be a good idea this week to rearrange our hoarding pile barn (which had nothing to do with our photoshoot in the cabin.)

Warned you. Squirrel.

Tristan hurt her back. She obvs thought she was a sumo wrestler whilst lifting a candle stick in the barn. Okay, it wasn’t a candle stick, but I wanted to use the word WHILST* at least once in my life. P dot S. * I said that with my best British accent.

And then.

While tidying up after our photoshoot, she, legit {accidentally} lit her hair on fire. She was holding a candle in one hand, and 12 things in another.

Flames.

In zeeee hair.

I usually reserve my stop drop and roll comments when I see a hawt fire fighter, but I may have made an exception for this one.

When I walked in the room, the side of her hair looked like a cat choked up a hair ball.

Tristan : “Mom, do I look classy and refined?”

Lynne :  “I’m not going to answer that”

All is well. We brushed her hair with 400 lbs of Moroccan oil and gave her a wee trim, and she is as right as rain.  Hence, there may be some spiked coffee sichuuuuations in our photos.

Top 8 Etsy Holiday finds for the cozy home you’re craving.

We mixed and matched 8 Etsy holiday faves,  so you don’t have to. Or you can shop in a mall, ya weirdo.

1.

I hate presents. Said no one ever. These small charming ceramic mugs are beautifully hand thrown and a perfect piece to add to your collection. We love to mix and match our coffee mugs in all different sizes, and all our mugs are simply white. You can have such a variety of mugs when you keep them in the same colour wheel. Or have lots of different colours, but we aren’t coming to your house.

2.

We’re so obsessed with these ceramic candle sticks. We only have a few of these, but we’d like more. Hint hint….hint? We put our candle holders on the dining table as a combination with other candles, just to soften up the whole look. Honestly tho, they’re boom dig all on their own too. Strong and spicy fun. Like us.

3.

These just make scents. We love the moody vibe of amber.  Some candles are just too pretty to burn. Or are they? Light them up.  This candle has a beautifully gentle scent. And it’s not too scenty-scenty. Is that a word?

4.

Outrageous relaxing starts here. One of our favourite nights of the holidays is Christmas Eve. We make homemade baileys, play the Elvis White Christmas album and often get bundled up and run out to the ice rink when there is snow. Some of us can skate. Some of us can’t. Not mentioning any names.

One thing is fooooshur…. we grew up collecting ornaments. We created this tradition where we gift each other a new ornament every year. We sign the year on the bottom to help us remember… for all the years to come. Our tree is now full of colour and memories. Best.Thing.Ever.

5.

Holiday baking is looking wayyyyyy cute this year with all credit going to these new darling knit patterned rolling pins. They are a perfect gift for the baker in your life. We chose the mini set so we could get two different patterns.  Cookies and cozy knits ….ahhhhhh.

6.

Light a candle. note to self: avoid lighting hair. Snuggle up in your fluffiest socks, thickest blankets and turn on your fave festive playlist.

This would make the perfect gift for the homebody in your life. It is one of theeeee most stylish candles we’ve seen. Note: It’s a fairly strong scent and we are usually not into too scenty-scenty when it comes to candles. We adore the look of the vessel tho!

7.

Love a footed tray to display your sweet goodies or to make up a wee platter? We have been long time fans of Emma and Elsie from A Beautiful Mess! The boards are made from all natural hand cut wood, and you can get this tray in two sizes. Another treasured piece that we will be loving all year long. Re-imagine those big dinners and still make the smallest ones an experience to remember. xo

8.

The little things. We chose this beautifully petite cutting board for both practicality and beauty. We love to use our cutting boards as serving trays as well as a pretty display. There’s no such thing as having too many wooden cutting boards.

Looking for something specific? Here are our all time fave gifts for an ultra cozy home, gifts for her, gifts for him and more! Here are alllllll our curated faves if you need some shopping inspo!

I adore all the buildings on your property with envy.My family is all spread out so, as a family, we don’t carry out traditions anymore. Each one of my boy’s (3 boys) families have their own traditions now. I would love to receive your giveaway. Very thoughtful.

  202. Brittney Radcliffe says:

  203. Kathy McKenzie says:

Lynne I love your emails. Seems like you are talking to me! Oh maybe you are. Anyway, I’ve got my decorations mostly up. This is, you know, 2020 and we need all the Joy we can get. Best of everything to you and yours. Merry Christmas!

  204. Jen says:

Love the “cozy” blog! That beautiful blanket you are cuddled up with… I need that in my life! We usually lay low and just spend the time with our 2 boys. No fancy meals, mostly charcuterie food so that we have more time to watch movies, play games, or just hangout and talk. I think that’s my best gift every year, being able to enjoy the fun and games of the holiday season without spending all my time in the kitchen cooking and cleaning. It took us a few years to give ourselves permission to be “selfish” if you will to do, well whatever we want, or don’t want to do. No regrets.

  205. Maria says:

Beautiful photos! I love how everyone is wearing matching holiday pj’s all over the Internet. My mom did it back in the early 70’s (I was just a tiny child… LOL). She got them through the Sears catalog and now I know she was a trend-setter. Be well.

  206. Heather Oberg says:

Luv luv luv your everything! I’m ordering the thumb mugs for my grandkids and me!

  207. Jennifer Cosby says:

  209. Michele Lambert says:

    Thank you Lynne😍
For your blog assistance today👍🏻 And for knowing that every time I see an email from you I know there is something beautiful waiting for me to see!
Squirrel 😉 to you and yours!!!

  210. Adrienne in Atlanta says:

I feel like “in our jammies” should end every sentence in 2020. Kind of like how we add “in bed” to all fortune cookie fortunes, ya know?

I don’t even know what I’d wear into an office at this point.

  211. Robin Urheim says:

I love all the cozy things!! Keep posting! Much love xxx

  212. Tstreit says:

  214. Nancy J says:

Love, love love your “cozy” blog…super Etsy finds, elegant presentation. I crack open the Grand Marnier to enjoy while decorating the tree!

  215. Lesley says:

Omg I missed your emails. They make me laugh, cry and wish for a lottery win so I can buy all this awesome stuff you show us. I truly think I need the knit pattern rolling pins. How cool are they. I can tell the family I learned how to knit cookies. They can eat them while snuggling in their homemade blankets. I feel like Oprah this year. “You get a blanket and you get a blanket!” Covid sucks but it did give me an excuse for being a hermit and I got back into my knitting and crocheting and Netflix. Did I really need an excuse to do that? Shhh don’t answer that. I hope you and yours are keeping safe and having fun.

  216. Yelysaveta says:

Hilarious…I can so see it and also relate!
One morning, thirty plus years ago, I was rudely awakened by my mother who snatched me from my cozy bed, due to it being set afire from a little pesky brother playing with a lighter under the bed.🤔
Yeah a good thrashing was in order, but not before calming herself with a Salem Ultra Light 100😂!!! Priorities 🤔
Although scary at the time, brings back gut busting laughter every retelling! Happy Cozy Holidays all!

  217. Susan Fletcher says:

Holidays will be at home with loved ONE instead of visiting loved ONES. Will need lots of prezzies to cheer me up (hint hint)

  218. Auntiepatch says:

OMG! You owe me a keyboard and monitor! I spit/sprayed my tea all over said electronics when I read about Tristan’s episode setting her hair on fire! Then it shot out of my nose when you said her burned hair looked like a cat choked out a hairball!!! OMG! You make me laugh! I’ve missed you! Love ~ Auntiepatch

  219. Nikki Suzanna says:

Holiday traditions this year are amped up for 2020! We picked up our living 9 ft Christmas tree within the first few days of November, finished Christmas shopping last month and have festivities planned leading up to the New Year! Currently making homemade gifts for all of our neighbors, friends and family. Everyone needs some extra cheer this year. Wishing you guys a happy holiday season without anymore hair fires! xx

I’m with you with the cookies! I can’t start my Christmas baking yet or I’ll be 90% cookie by the time Ol’ Saint Nick comes around. Christmas will be a little different this year in that my mom won’t be joining us (she’s staying home and staying safe) but we’ll still watch holiday movies (including our faves The Grinch and Christmas with the Kranks), make a god-awful-looking gingerbread house and have turkey and all the fixings. Your post put me in a festive mood. Thank you!

  240. Claire says:

So much fun! Christmas decorating season begins in our house on December 1, but shopping can happen any time. Although with kids I’ve learned that there is a sweet spot – can’t shop too early because they change their minds, but can’t leave it too late because the best items sell out!

Etsy is my daughter’s « go to » for many favourites. A few traditions….bought both my children a tree ornament from the first Christmas until after they went off on their own. They both decorate their trees and the memories come flooding in. Of course, the cinnamon buns Christmas morning is a must! Happy Holidays!! 🎄

What a lovely giveaway! A tradition in my family is to purchase one frog ornament every year for our Christmas tree. We’re now into the 15th year of doing this. Every year it become more challenging to find. The rule is that we have to find it locally (in store, holiday market, antique mall, etc) and not something purchased online. We have fun looking!

  302. Allie says:

Love these ideas! We always wear matching PJs and indulge in mimosas and homemade cinnamon buns on Christmas morning ☺️

  303. Charlene says:

This year we’re doing Karen B’s November pledge. All the Christmas “work” is getting done in November so we can enjoy December. • Hi Joyce!
You are most welcome! Isn’t gift giving just the best? LOVE!
We adore narrowing things down to a list in Etsy so it makes it a little easier to shop when we are in a time crunch. Not that we are in a time crunch and leave things to the last minute at the holidays. PS. We are ALWAYS in a time crunch. LOL. haha!

      Cheers!
